Project TWO: Glory glory x2

Athens, a city steeped in history and tradition, undergoes a remarkable transformation on football game days. The color red, as the symbolic lifeblood of the passionate fans who gather in the classic city, serves as both a unifying force and visual spectacle. Through the medium of film photography, I embarked on a captivating journey to encapsulate the allure of Athens on these extraordinary days. Shooting with film was a deliberate choice, a nod to the timeless quality of Athens devotion to the sport. Film, with its tactile nature and unpredictable outcomes, mirrored the excitement and unpredictability of the games themselves. The physicality of loading film and the anticipation of developing each roll added an authentic layer to my photographic process.

In Athens, red transcends mere color, it's an emotion, a collective spirit that binds people from all walks of life. I sought to document the diverse expressions of red- from the stands watching in unison to the red flags fluttering above the city's landmarks. With film, I aimed to capture the raw, unfiltered emotions etched on the faces of fans, from jubilant celebrations to moments of quiet reflection. In each photograph, I hope to evoke a sense of nostalgia and belonging. The film allowed me to preserve the timeless traditions of Athens’ game days, where the color red reigns supreme. My work is a tribute to the unwavering passion and dedication of the people of Athens, who transform their city into a sea of red on Saturdays, reminding us all of the enduring power of community and shared devotion.
