Project One: Glory Glory

Black and white film photography, to me, is an art form that transcends time and captures the essence of moments in their purest form. It is a medium that allows me to peel away the distractions of color and focus on the core elements of composition, light, and emotion. Athens, Georgia serves as my muse and canvas for this photographic journey.

In this quaint southern town, I find inspiration in the juxtaposition of its historic architecture against the backdrop of modernity and the thing I love most, Georgia football. the old beautiful buildings on campus whisper stories of the past while the vibrant arts scene pulsates with creative energy and fans. Athens provides a rich tapestry of subjects, from the musicians on the street corners to the hidden courtyards tucked away behind centuries-old buildings and most importantly the eager fans who love their Bulldawgs.

Black and white film photography in Athens is a dance between traditional and innovation. I cherish the tactile nature of film, from loading the camera to developing the negatives in Lovett’s darkroom. Every click of the shutter is a deliberate act, a pause to appreciate the world around me.

The absence of color allows me to emphasize the interplay of light and shadow, highlighting the nuances of form and texture. It reveals the subtleties of expression, the stories etched in the lines of a fan’s face, the beautiful architecture or the timeless elegance of a vintage storefront.

Through my lens, I am to convey the soul of Athens, its moments of stillness and it bursts of vitality. Black and white film photography is my vehicle to explore this charming town, capturing its essence and preserving it for generations to come. In this ever changing world, I find solace in the timeless beauty of Athens through the art of black and white film photography. This is a place that is so incredibly special to me and houses some of my most fond memories so I am very eager to continue this project for the weeks to come.
